96% passing, 100% tackles: £35m United star had his best performance this season vs Liverpool,…

Manchester United registered a statement 2-1 Premier League win over Liverpool at Anfield yesterday.

The Red Devils had not beaten the Merseyside outfit at Anfield since 2016 but managed to end the streak in sublime fashion.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring after just 62 seconds from a lovely Amad Diallo assist.

United should have easily scored two or three more goals in the first half. Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot squandered big chances.

Cody Gakpo equalised for the Reds in the 78th minute, but United had the final laugh with Harry Maguire scoring a memorable winner.

Maguire was handed the man of the match for his late contribution, but Amad had an equally good outing in the north-west derby.

The Ivorian should have had another assist at least. He put the ball on the plate for Fernandes, who unfortunately hit the woodwork.

Overall, he won 96 percent of his passes, losing possession just four times. The 23-year-old won 100 percent of his tackles with four recoveries.

Amad was brilliant against Sunderland at right wing-back before the last international break, but he did not make a direct goal contribution.

The £35 million-rated star stepped up with his best display of the campaign last evening. He repaid the faith shown by the manager.

The onus is now on him to replicate the performance over the coming matches to establish himself as an undisputed starter at right wing-back.

United’s stunning win has seen them climb to ninth in the league standings. They are now just two points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool.

The Red Devils need to turn up with another strong outing to beat Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

United have lost the four of the previous five meetings against the Seagulls. Brighton did the double over the Red Devils last campaign.
