Report: Leicester and Ipswich in £2.5m battle to sign player Daniel Farke sold at Leeds for £9m

The pressure is on Daniel Farke at the moment at Leeds United, but one thing he has got right is the players he’s brought in during his time at Elland Road – or, selling players for the right fee.

While Leeds fans will feel they needed more in the summer window – and after Saturday’s 2-0 loss against Burnley, they certainly lacked in the final third – the players Farke has brought in have been solid signings.

Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Ao Tanaka, Jayden Bogle, Gabriel Gudmundsson, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are all examples of signings made for below £10m. These are players far worth what Leeds paid for them.

Another example is Glen Kamara. The Finland international was bought for a fee below £5m back in 2023 from Rangers, before the 49ers’ takeover of the Gers. A year later, Leeds sold him for almost double.

Leicester and Ipswich are battling OGC Nice to sign Glen Kamara

Kamara was a mainstay during the 2023-24 season as Leeds reached the play-off final, proving solid in transition. But after one season, Rennes agreed to pay £9m to land the Arsenal academy graduate.

He was one of several sales that summer, including Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter. The quartet raked in north of £120m for Leeds, but things have gone downhill for the midfielder.

Kamara has hardly played for Rennes and was shipped on loan to Josh Brownhill’s new side Al Shabab in January, but the Saudi side opted not to keep him. Now back at Rennes, he’s failed to play this season.

According to Foot Mercato, Rennes are happy to sell Kamara for just £2.5m. A massive loss on a player they bought 18 months earlier. It is claimed that Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and OGC Nice are looking.

Rennes enjoyed a summer revamp in 2024, and Kamara was one of a few new faces brought to the Ligue 1 club. He joined and started the 2024-25 season as first choice, but quickly dropped out of the side.

By the time he was shipped out on loan to the Middle East, Kamara had managed just 13 appearances for Rennes and only eight starts. He was signed by Pavel Nedved in January 2025, but was used rotationally.

Kamara will be desperate for a move in January and perhaps the chance to return to England, where he did well enough with Leeds, could tempt him. Equally, he may feel he has unfinished business in France.
