A closer look at some of the latest Premier League transfer rumours from over the weekend
Nottingham Forest are at the forefront of media attention right now following the dramatic news of Ange Postecoglou’s sacking.
It took less than 20 minutes for the club to confirm the 60-year-old’s dismissal following their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground. Now, the search is on for their third head coach of the season and there’s a big task ahead.
Nottingham Forest learn release clause for ‘top’ manager target
A number of names have emerged on Nottingham Forest’s shortlist, including former Everton manager Sean Dyche. Another who has cropped up more than once now is Marco Silva, whose future at Fulham is currently uncertain.
The Portuguese coach was reportedly Forest’s first choice to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, following his sacking last month. He is now at the ‘top of their shortlist’ once again in the wake of the Postecoglou news.
According to Football Insider, Silva’s release clause at Fulham is more than £10 million, which could prove to be a ‘big stumbling block’ for the East Midlands outfit. It could even be enough to force Forest into looking at other options, with Dyche the other main focus of the club.
The 3AM Verdict: Forest hit stunning new heights last season when they were once challenging for a top four finish. Seventh-place and a spot in Europe was still a very admirable result for the Reds but this season they are seriously struggling to get going. Forest need someone to steady the ship and restore confidence in the players, especially those like Elliot Anderson, who is being eyed by Premier League rivals ahead of the January window.
Liverpool lose grip on transfer target who nearly signed
Liverpool will revisit their transfer targets in the new year to bolster their squad but the ongoing links with Marc Guehi appear to be diluting.
According to Fabrizio Romano, ‘several’ clubs are targeting Guehi and the battle for his signature is said to be an ‘open race’ as things stand.
“When I receive questions about Guehi – ‘is it already a done deal after [the close call] on deadline day?’ – what I can tell you is Liverpool are still interested, but nothing done or agreed [for next summer],” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
The 3AM Verdict: Liverpool definitely need to sign a new centre-back to aid their defensive concerns but it is looking likely they will not get their hands on Guehi. After coming within inches of signing him over the summer, you would expect them to pick up where they left off in January. However, clubs including Real Madrid have started to turn his head and it seems what was once an ‘all-in’ attitude towards Liverpool is now a thing of the past.
