In what now ranks among the most improbable comebacks in league history, the Denver Broncos stunned the New York Giants 33-32 on Sunday afternoon.
In doing so, Denver, whose head coach took a thinly veiled shot at Russell Wilson, shattered the extraordinary NFL streak in which teams leading by 18 points or more with six minutes remaining had won 1,602 consecutive games.

The Giants, still trying to regroup after the loss of star Malik Nabers, appeared to have the game well in hand. After dominating early and entering the fourth quarter with a 19-0 lead, New York extended their advantage to 26-8 with 6:38 remaining.

At that point, the statistical odds were overwhelmingly in their favor. Teams in that position had never lost. But the script flipped. The Broncos rallied, deftly exploiting miscues, building momentum and delivering a last-second dagger.
Quarterback Bo Nix orchestrated the Denver surge in spectacular fashion. In the final quarter alone, he became the first player in NFL history to throw two touchdown passes and rush for two touchdowns in a single quarter.
His runs and passes fueled a 33-point outburst — all in the fourth quarter — which itself set a mark for the most fourth-quarter points by a team that had been shut out for the first three quarters.

The Giants’ collapse featured key errors at the worst possible moments. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart threw a fourth-quarter interception at a critical juncture, and kicker Jude McAtamney missed two extra points, including one with under a minute remaining — a miss that directly opened the door for Denver’s game-winning drive.
The Broncos’ decisive possession covered 56 yards in four plays following the Giants’ missed extra point.
Nix connected with Marvin Mims Jr. for 29 yards and then found Courtland Sutton for 22 more to set up a 21-yard field goal attempt—well within range. Kicker Wil Lutz calmly drilled a 39-yard game-winner as time expired.

Giants coach Brian Daboll summed up the devastation in the locker room: “Tough loss… Put their heart and soul into it. Not a lot of talking that needs to be done when you lose a game like that.”

Meanwhile, Broncos coach Sean Payton remarked, “I was proud we fought to get back in it… It’s like we had to find a way to clean up our mess.”
Denver improves to 5-2 and rides this surge with renewed belief; the Giants fall to 2-5, stunned by a defeat that seemed impossible just minutes earlier.
The collapse will haunt New York’s season, while Denver will forever be noted as the team that ended one of football’s longest-standing in-game streaks.
