Ignore the noise - Welbeck reveals how he returned to top form for Albion

The Albion forward took his tally to four goals in the last three games as his double sank Newcastle.

He has bounced back to his best after a slow start to the campaign - which was not helped by a minor injury in pre-season.

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler had spoken of his faith in Welbeck to make a rapid return to form after recognising he had “struggled a bit” early in.

Welbeck told The Argus: “I know myself and I put the pressure on myself to produce on the pitch and to do what I can do and bring what I can bring onto the pitch and off the pitch too.

There were a few performances that I wasn't quite happy with, but it was one of those things where you get back to the basics, you start grafting, working hard, and you don't worry about any outside noise at all:

“I've got enough experience now to just knuckle down and worry about myself and do what I can do to get back to the level that I can produce.”

Welbeck’s goals were his first at the Amex since a winner in a match which followed a similar path - against Bournemouth.

From 1-0 up that night, the Seagulls were pegged back to 1-1 only to regroup and win with an expert Welbeck finish.

He said: “Today it was a big step in the right direction.

“I think there's been plenty of occasions where we've gone a goal up here at the Amex. “We've not followed through with the three points, so it's nice today.

“it's like testament to the character and belief of the boys on the pitch, and everybody and, when they've equalised, to push on and get that winning goal

“That’s something we've worked on as a group and the coaching staff so it was nice to see that come fruition today.”
