Trent Alexander-Arnold's brother has gone viral for his comments following Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. The Premier League champions are now on a four-game losing streak after suffering their first loss to the Red Devils at Anfield in nine years - their worst run across all competitions since November 2014 under Brendan Rodgers.
Bryan Mbeumo controversially put Ruben Amorim's side ahead after just two minutes, capitalising while Alexis Mac Allister was down with an unattended head injury. Although Cody Gakpo levelled the score in the 78th minute, a series of missed chances before that - including three strikes against the woodwork - left the Reds blushing. Their wastefulness was punished when Harry Maguire scored the winner six minutes later.
What were once dismissed as mere teething issues now appear far more serious, as Arne Slot and co. struggle to recapture the form that won them last season’s league title. The problems at full-back have been particularly damaging, with Matthijs de Ligt revealing that United had specifically targeted that weakness to gain an advantage.
Trent Alexander-Arnold's Brother Unleashes Liverpool Rant
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Right now, nobody on Merseyside expected to miss Trent as much as they do, with neither of the full-backs signed over the summer currently pulling their weight. Gary Lineker believes Mohamed Salah is also struggling without the star right-back, while the Real Madrid man now finds himself benched at his new club and seemingly without a clear path back into the England squad ahead of the World Cup.
The feeling last season was that Trent had become detached from his boyhood club, and that much of the quiet manoeuvring that saw him “leave out the back door,” so to speak, was influenced by his brother Tyler - who also serves as his agent. Many believed they were chasing the glamour of Madrid, but Trent's younger brother Marcell's recent rant may prove that the family still cares deeply about the Reds. He said (watch the full rant below):
"What's happened to our team!? Winning the league to now having four back-to-back losses, it hasn't happened in 38 years! 38 f****** years, and we're losing to Man United to put the cherry on top. What's happened to our team? It cannot go on like this. It's a f****** joke, and if you're not angry, you don't care about this club."
Naturally, Liverpool supporters in the comment section were quick to criticise his use of “our” and question his supposed care for the club, given his other brother's role as the driving force behind Trent’s decision to leave. However, if those of an Anfield persuasion were offered the chance to re-sign the right-back right now, they’d probably bite your hand off.
Jeremie Frimpong remains too attack-minded, while Conor Bradley’s rashness has become a major talking point in recent weeks, especially after he was hooked at halftime during the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea. Trent, it seems, strikes the perfect balance between the two - and along with Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, he’s being sorely missed at Anfield as growing pains get the better of the champions.
