“I told him clearly” – Oliver Glasner on dealing with Crystal Palace ego

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has been speaking to the Austrian media in recent weeks on several topics related to the London club.

On October 9th, the Austrian discussed his big plans for the Premier League club. Four days later, he explained how he handles pressure with the Eagles.

Glasner guided Crystal Palace win the FA Cup last season, the first major success in the club’s history. They also beat Liverpool in the Community Shield in August. Last week, the coach insisted he doesn’t want to take anything for granted.

Kurier carry more quotes from the 51-year-old, who joined Crystal Palace in February 2024.

When Glasner arrived at Selhurst Park, the newspaper points out there was one player who was very confident about himself. The player is unnamed, but Kurier state: ‘He contributed to concededing two goals straight away, and it was similar in training.’

The Eagles boss gives an insight into how he dealt with this ‘ego player’.

“I brought him in and told him clearly that I didn’t want to do that anymore,” he said.

“Then we played at Liverpool; we had lost six games before that; Liverpool had been unbeaten at home for two years. It’s good to have a player like that because he tells himself, I can do it. We won 1-0. What’s exhausting on the one hand can help you in that situation.”

Glasner and Kurier haven’t mentioned the player.

Eberechi Eze scored the winner for Crystal Palace in their league win over the Reds at Anfield in April 2024. He left Selhurst Park and completed a move to Arsenal in August.
