FFP can hinder Manchester United player’s future–On top of club shortlist so far

Joshua Zirkzee remained on the bench during Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday.

So far this season, the Dutchman has made just one start in the Premier League. Due to this lack of game time, there’s been suggestions about a return to Italy.

Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport notes the Manchester United player is at the top of AS Roma’s shortlist. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini is unhappy with his team’s attack and wants signings in January.

Along with Zirkzee, Union SG’s Promise David and Nice striker Terem Moffi are also on the shortlist. The Dutchman’s future can be hindered by Roma’s issues with Financial Fair Play.

The Giallorossi are likely to be fined by UEFA due to breaches in 2025. As a result, they want to strictly stay within their limits in 2026. This is why Gasperini is desperate for guarantees in attack. Roma only want to sign players that will make a definite impact.

Zirkzee hasn’t been a regular at Manchester United. Last season, he found the back of the net seven times in all competitions.

At Bologna, he scored 12 times in the 2023/24 season.

There’s Roma worry over whether he’d be a nailed-on positive and produce immediately. Given they’re restricted due to FFP, that puts more doubt on the transfer.
