A sparkling Anfield performance can cement legendary status for a Man Utd player, regardless of their overall performance, and Rio Ferdinand thinks another player has done the same.
The 2-1 victory at Liverpool was crucial for Man Utd and Ruben Amorim in more ways than one.
Not only was this the first time they won consecutive games under this Man Utd manager, but they answered questions about their resilience by reclaiming the lead.

Rio Ferdinand showers praise on Harry Maguire
For Harry Maguire, this trip to Anfield was a chance at redemption because his missed chance near the end of this fixture last season still lives in the memory.
Maguire pounced on the second invitation this time, guiding a smart header to restore United’s advantage late on when Liverpool were in the ascendancy.
It continues a remarkable trend of clutch goals from the centre-back, whose comeback story at the club is one to take inspiration from.
Rio Ferdinand, speaking on his YouTube channel after the game, said Maguire is now firmly entering ‘legendary’ status for the sheer amount of unforgettable moments he’s provided to the club.

Amorim said after the game that Maguire’s story is something kids should look up to, for the sheer amount of will and courage it took for him to stage a comeback at the club.
His story will always have him as a favourite of the club.
Maguire should end his career at Man Utd
Maguire’s contract expires next summer, and it is unlikely that United will renew it on the same terms as he is on now.
Currently, he earns about £200k/week, which is not in line with the wage structure Ineos want to implement at the club, nor does it reflect his advancing age.
However, if he can agree to a pay cut, then United can do a lot worse than have Maguire in the dressing room as a leader and a model professional.
His ability to defend the box and the clutch gene are also two things that don’t disappear completely with age, so he can be a useful squad option too.
As Amorim said, his story is an inspiration for kids, so he should be appropriately rewarded by letting him end his career at the club.
After all, who better to share Maguire’s story with the kids than the man himself!
