Premier League veteran manager set to replace Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are going through a rough phase as they have already sacked Ange Postecoglou following their 3-0 defeat against Chelsea in Premier League at the City Ground.

The Australian manager replaced Nuno Espirito Santo this season and after a spell of poor results, he was relieved off his duties in only 39 days after taking charge of Forest.

Nottingham Forest lost their last four games across competitions and are in the relegation zone in the Premier League points table with only five points from the first eight games.

While there were reports about Roberto Mancini taking over Postecoglou, but talks have apparently collapsed with the Italian.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest are now close to appointing veteran Premier League manager Sean Dyche, who is known for saving clubs from relegation.

Given, Forest's current form, they desperately need someone who can churn out results and help them crawl out of the relegation zone in the next few games.

Apart from Dyche, Forest also considered hiring Fulham's Marco Silva, but the Portuguese manager was reluctant to leave Craven Cottage midseason.

Also, there are reports about Forest unable to pay the compensation for Silva due to PSR restrictions which made the appointment of Silva extremely complicated.

Why next manager appointment will be crucial for Nottingham Forest?

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis knows that the next managerial appointment could be make of break for the club.

The Reds had a fantastic 2024/25 season as they finished seventh in the Premier League table and also qualifying for the Europa League.

However, since then, Marinakis' differences with Nuno meant that he left for West Ham United and even his replacement Postecoglou failed to live up to the expectations.

Now, Marinakis desperately needs someone who could bring stability to the dressing room whilst motivating the players amid tough times.

Therefore, Forest management and Marinakis believe that the former Burnley manager Dyche could be the best option for Forest, and they aim to maintain their spot in the English top flight.

The English manager's recent Premier League stint came with Everton where he helped the Toffees maintain their status in the top flight in the 2023/24 campaign but later in January 2025, he was sacked and replaced by David Moyes.

Forest have invested more than £180m ($241.7m) on transfers this summer and despite that they have struggled to secure wins this season mainly due to uncertainty around managers and playing styles.
