A Manchester United legend has been rushed to hospital after a sickening collision.

Diego Forlan was turning out in Uruguay’s over-40s Liga Universitaria on Saturday when the 46-year-old suffered a sickening collision with an opposing player. Forlan, who was turning out for Old Boys in their 4-1 win against Old Christians, hit the ground after the slickening collision.

The United cult hero was rushed into the dressing room where he was diagnosed with three broken ribs and a partially-collapsed lung, before being taken to a local hospital.

According to Referi, Forlan needed to have his lung drained after it filled with fluid. However, he told those close to him there was “no bad intention” from the opponent.

Forlan is now said to be in a good condition and will remain in hospital until Tuesday.

Forlan moved to Old Trafford back in 2002, after impressing with Argentine side Independiente.

However, his time in the red half of Manchester wasn't quite as fruitful and he failed to score a single goal in his first six months.

Although he eventually won a Premier League title and FA Cup, he was sold three years later with just 17 goals to his name.

However, he etched his name in United folklore for his quickfire brace in a win against Liverpool at Anfield in 2002, prompting the famous chant "He came from Uruguay, he made the Scousers cry".
