Auburn NFL roundup: Derrick Brown records rare game for Carolina Panthers

Defensive tackle Derrick Brown filled out the stat sheet as the Carolina Panthers clamped down on the New York Jets for a 13-6 victory on Sunday.

The defensive tackle tied for the team lead with seven tackles, recorded two sacks, registered three quarterback hits and broke up three passes as Carolina limited the Jets to 220 yards and two field goals.

Brown became the seventh player in NFL history to have seven tackles, two sacks and three passes defended in the same game since all three of those stats have been recorded (starting in 1999). The other players have been the Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston and Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vincent Rey in 2013, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt and New York Jets linebacker Davis Harris in 2014, Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt in 2021 and Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby in 2022.

Before beating the Jets to reach 4-3 in the 2025 season, Carolina defeated the Miami Dolphins 27-24 on Oct. 5 and the Dallas Cowboys 30-27 on Oct. 12.

The Panthers have a winning record for the first time since they were 3-2 in the 2021 season. That season started with three consecutive victories for Carolina, the franchise’s most recent three-game winning streak until Sunday’s victory.

Brown was among the 16 former Auburn players who got on the field on the seventh Sunday of the NFL’s 106th season.

Two other former Auburn players were involved in the Carolina-New York game:

Jets defensive tackle Byron Cowart is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

All of Nix’s touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, when Denver scored all 33 of its points. That’s the most fourth-quarter points scored by a team that entered the period with no points in NFL history. Nix is the only player in NFL history with two TD passes and two TD runs in the fourth quarter of a game.
