Eagles get three key starters back for game against Vikings

MINNEAPOLIS — The last time we saw the Eagles on the field they were without three of their best players and the result was an ugly loss to the Giants at MetLife Stadium.

All three of those players, however, have returned for the team’s Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Jalen Carter missed the game against the Giants with a heel injury that left him with a questionable status Friday, but the second-team All Pro defensive tackle said Wednesday he’d be ready to play against the Vikings and he was.

Landon Dickerson, who has battled a variety of injuries (knee, back and ankle) since training camp missed just the fifth game of his career against the Giants after suffering the ankle injury in the first half of the Eagles’ loss to the Denver Broncos. But the three-time Pro Bowl guard was back on the field for warmups Sunday and in the starting lineup.

Second-year cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, who finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting last season, left the Eagles’ game against the Giants early in the second quarter, leaving Adoree’ Jackson and Kelee Ringo as the team’s top two outside cornerbacks.

Mitchell’s return left Fangio with a decision at the other outside cornerback and Jackson made the start over Ringo, who had been the starter in the three previous games. Jackson had replaced Ringo briefly against the Giants, but then both players ended up on the field after Mitchell’s injury.

There was some speculation that rookie Mac McWilliams might be trending toward competing for a starting job, but he was inactive for the fourth time this season against the Vikings. The Eagles’ other inactives were tight end Grant Calcaterra (oblique injury), running back AJ Dillon (a healthy scratch for the first time this season) and rookie offensive lineman Drew Kendall, who has dressed just once this season. Sam Howell was the emergency quarterback.

Returner Xavier Gipson was active for the first time since joining the team in late September after being released by the Giants.
