Manchester United have triumphed at Anfield against Liverpool for the first time in nearly ten years, with Ruben Amorim's side winning back-to-back games in the league for the first time as a sweetener - and some fans in the Manchester Evening Newscomments section say that there's one man in particular that deserves some extra praise.
Liverpool came into the game hoping to put a rough patch behind them, but it wasn't to be as Bryan Mbeumo cut through a porous defence inside two minutes. It was deep into the second half when Cody Gakpo levelled, but a trademark Harry Maguire header shortly afterwards won the three points for United.
Amorim entrusted Senne Lammens with a second start in goal ahead of Altay Bayindir, after an assured debut against Sunderland. The young Belgian keeper looked calm once again in the most high-profile match of his career to date, making a case to continue as the No. 1.
Some fans think that Lammens is exactly the transfer that Manchester United needed to make this summer. Reader Tt84 says: "Lammens is the signing we have been missing, isn't he? I know it has only been 2 games, and that he is a young lad and will no doubt make mistakes.
"But he is organising the defence, they are listening to him, he is doing his job. A solid line of defence with a solid keeper behind them - we have been missing that."
Commenter Noni87 agrees: "The difference a reliable keeper makes to everyone's confidence is immeasurable. I'm not saying he's the best keeper in the world or anything like that, but him being solid in goals makes us more solid throughout. This win doesn't change everything that has happened over the past year, but it can be the starting point if we push on now."
Brav3339 writes: "I was reading about Lammens recently. His old coaches were saying how calm he is at all time. He faced the firestorm of Anfield and was totally unfazed by it. He brings calm to the defence which the previous two had not done. Early days of course, but he looks like an absolute bargain so far!"
Faimu says: "I have said many times that everything start from the keeper, and this time we got it right. Those constant long ball took the pressure out of the defence."
FreddiePayne writes: "Nice to see a confident keeper for a change, he’s off to a good start. Defenders look way more comfortable with him back there, and he can catch the ball too!
"Maguire was Man Of The Match, not only for his winning goal, but his really strong performance overall. De Ligt was really good too. For me, our worst performer was Bruno. Gave away the ball so often there. He’s not suited for that midfield role. He should be further forward where he’s at his best."
Fayfromalgeria says: "Cunha deserves more — he managed to hold onto the ball at crucial moments and in difficult situations. I can’t wait for his first goal; it’s coming soon. He, Mbeumo, and Šeško are going to be devastating this season. And having a reliable goalkeeper behind them changes the whole dynamic."
