State NFL roundup: Former Pike Road star joins Jim Brown

For the fourth time in Cleveland Browns’ history, a rookie ran for at least three touchdowns in a game on Sunday. Former Pike Road High School star Quinshon Judkins achieved the feat as the Browns beat the Miami Dolphins 31-6.

Cleveland hadn’t scored more than 17 points in any game this season before Sunday, when Judkins ran for 84 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. Judkins broke a 3-3 tie with a 46-yard touchdown run with 11:19 left in the first half. He also scored on a 3-yard run with 6:03 left in the first half and a 2-yard run with 10:56 left in the game.

In the Browns’ second victory of the season, Judkins followed Chet Hanulak, Jim Brown and Travis Prentice in the franchise record book:

Hanulak ran for 94 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries in a 42-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 12, 1954.

Brown ran for 237 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries in a 45-31 victor over the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 24, 1957.

Prentice ran for 97 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries in a 29-21 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 8, 2000.

Judkins was among the 28 players from Alabama high schools and colleges (excluding Alabama and Auburn) who got on the field on the seventh Sunday of the NFL’s 106th season.

Alex Wright (Elba, UAB) started at defensive end for the Browns. Wright made five tackles and recorded two tackles for loss.

Jameis Winston (Hueytown) was designated as the Giants’ emergency third quarterback and could play only if Jaxson Dart and Russell Wilson could not.

Colts running back Ameer Abdullah (Homewood) ran for 19 yards on two carries, caught an 8-yard pass and returned two kickoffs for 109 yards. Abdullah returned a kickoff 81 yards to the Los Angeles 14-yard line to set up a touchdown that put Indianapolis ahead 31-10 with 12:03 left in the third quarter.

Colts quarterback Riley Leonard (Fairhope) dressed for the game but did not play.

Chargers cornerback Jordan Oladokun (Samford) is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

Kimani Vidal (Troy) started at running back for the Chargers. Vidal ran for 20 yards on nine carries and caught four passes for 15 yards.

Colts safety Trey Washington (Hewitt-Trussville) did not record any stats.

Forty-Niners cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. (South Alabama) made five tackles, tying his career high set on Sept. 28 in a 26-21 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Darnell Mooney (Gadsden City) started at wide receiver for the Falcons. Mooney had three receptions for 68 yards.

Forty-Niners defensive back Siran Neal (Eufaula, Jacksonville State) made two tackles for the 49ers.
