Eddie Howe to make two big changes: Our predicted Newcastle United starting XI to face Benfica

**Newcastle United are in Champions League action on Tuesday night under the lights at St James' Park as Jose Mourinho's Benfica provide the opposition.**

Jose Mourinho doesn't have the greatest of records as a visiting manager to St James' Park, which has to be encouraging for the Magpies. Equally, he's already complaining about he lack of time on the training pitch between games, so the miserable Mourinho is already making an appearance.

Newcastle can take a lot of positives from their second-half performance against Brighton on Saturday, but they need to learn plenty of lessons from their first-half performance if they want to get back to winning ways.

We hope that Eddie Howe learned his lessons from his team selection and will make the two changes we need to see tomorrow night.

Changes are required

### Goalkeeper

**Nick Pope** - Beaten twice on Saturday, but he couldn't have done much about either of them, as the problems were in front of him.

### Defenders

**Kieran Trippier** - Lots of games in quick succession could be the undoing of Tripps, but Howe isn't flush with options, so the veteran starts again.

**Malick Thiaw** - He and Sven Botman should have done more to prevent Danny Welbeck's first goal, but it wasn't enough to consider dropping him.

**Sven Botman** - Getting stronger every game, and while he and Thiaw let Welbeck walk through the defence on Saturda,y he was good overall.

**Dan Burn** - Still don't like him at left-back, but he's doing a decent job.

### Midfielders

**Bruno Guimaraes (c)** - Way off his best on Saturday, but we know he can bounce back.

**Sandro Tonali** - Similar to Bruno, he wasn't good enough at the Amex, but we know he can and will do better.

**Jacob Ramsey** - It might be too soon for him to start a game, but Joelinton has been so poor lately that it has to be worth the risk.

### Forwards

**Jacob Murphy** - Anthony Elanga was less than useless on Saturday, while Murphy made things happen. He must start.

**Nick Woltemade** - Do we even need to say anything?

**Anthony Gordon** - Still holding off Harvey Barnes as first-choice. Just.

We aren't convinced that Eddie Howe will start Ramsey over Joelinton, even though we all know he probably should. Had he not just come back from injury, we're sure he wouldn't hesitate.
