Today in advance of the West Ham United vs Brentford fixture the hot topic of conversation is the ‘t_o boycott or not to boycott’_ the game. Several [Claret and Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/hammers-head-coach-speaks-out-on-brentford-boycott-west-ham-news/) readers have made their own opinions loud and clear by posting in the ‘comments’ section. A trio of them are featured in guest posts today, displaying the differing views and emotions felt by supporters.

“_Where have you been-its not going to make one bit of difference, win lose or draw._
_The club is rudderless no direction and certainly no leadership. West ham as we know it no longer exists._
_We were sold a pipedream. This campaign needs to be increased, not reduced. The ground isn’t suitable full stop. On my visits to Upton Park, all the way from Liverpool, I had a match day routine: Ken’s cafe near the Boleyn. The market, the smell of burgers and onions._
_Everything was ‘West Ham-ized and the quality on the pitch! Bonds, Brooking Lampard snr…._
_Sorry to say it I wouldn’t go to the end of my garden now. What’s that? “Call myself a supporter”? Yes I have done over 50 years Ive known good bad and horrible times but never been bitten by that deadly bug indifference._
_Protest, protest and protest again to force change. Mark my word if we don’t we will be relegated.”_

_“I think it’s a bit unfair to ask people to boycott a game they’ve already paid for._
_It may be better to say don’t take your seat until the 10th minute or something- that would have the desired effect on TV at kick off._
_And people will happily stay downstairs with their pint (or another pint!) anyway.”_

_“I can see that there are problems with the stadium that might help to explain the atrocious home record, and I can see that the squad is mediocre and without strong leaders._
_But surely one aspect of the dreadful home record is the constant moaning and complaints from so-called supporters? If I turned up for work knowing that all those around are whinging about me, I’d soon down tools and go home. Boo sucks to the lot of them._
_And don’t say that the complaints are only aimed at the bosses. Psychology doesn’t work like that. Those making their point by staying away are probably doing the right thing, but for the wrong reason.”_
Differing fan comments, then, illustrate a complex situation and a cross-section of fan opinions. If nothing else, that highlights the contrasts between equally valid but differing points of view: Each to their own but none have a monopoly on being ‘the right thing to do’.
