Newcastle United were without Sandro Tonali in training on Monday, and now the reason for his absence has been revealed.

On the eve of Newcastle United’s game against Benfica in the Champions League, Toon fans have been rocked by the news that Sandro Tonali has missed training.

The Italy international is Eddie Howe’s most important player, so it would be a massive blow if he were to be absent for such a mammoth Champions League encounter.

That became a possibility when it emerged he was not in training on Monday, but it has now been reported that the 25-year-old could still feature in Tuesday night’s game at St James’ Park.
