The real reason Sandro Tonali missed Newcastle United training today revealed

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali missed training today because he has been suffering from a bug, according to the Daily Mail.

However, the Italian still has a chance of playing tomorrow when Newcastle host Benfica at St James’ Park in the Champions League.

Tonali has not suffered any injuries and manager Eddie Howe will hope he can be available for selection against the Portuguese club on Tuesday.

The midfielder started in the Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday before he was withdrawn after 70 minutes.

Newcastle will be looking forward to bouncing back from the painful loss and picking up all three points against Benfica tomorrow would be huge.

The Magpies started their European campaign with a home defeat to Barcelona last month before strolling to a 4-0 victory over Union St.Gilloise away from home in their next game.

Benfica are winless in the Champions League so far this term following defeats to Qarabag FK and Chelsea, and they will be desperate for a result on Tuesday.

Newcastle have yet to hit top gear this season and a statement win tomorrow could be what they need as they look to impress again in 2025-26.

They are currently without Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa, and losing Tonali to an injury would have been a huge blow.

Fortunately for the Toons, the Italian could feature tomorrow and a much-needed win will come in handy.
