Forest reach agreement for next manager who has shocking record vs Manchester United ahead of clash next week

Man Utd travel to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League next week.

Ruben Amorim has come under plenty of scrutiny in his role as United head coach this season, but has eased the pressure on his position after the weekend win over Liverpool. A few reports claimed the Portuguese coach could have lost his job if they failed to defeat Sunderland earlier in the month, though United have subsequently won their next two matches and co-owner Jim Ratcliffe publicly backed him over the recent international break.

Instead it was Forest who made a managerial change over the weekend, as Ange Postecoglou was sacked just minutes after they lost 3-0 to Chelsea in the Premier League. Although he didn't enjoy any success in his 39 days in the role, he might have fancied his chances against United next week after he defeated them four times as Tottenham Hotspur manager last season.

Sean Dyche set for Nottingham Forest role

Nottingham Forest are set to appoint Sean Dyche as their third head coach of the new season and is expected to face Manchester United in his first Premier League home match with the club. Dyche has been out of a job since he was sacked by Everton back in January after two years in the role.

Forest had explored a deal to bring former Olympiacos manager Marco Silva to the City Ground, but he was reluctant to leave Fulham and there was a reported £13 million release clause in his current contract. Controversial owner Evangelos Marinakis also looked at Man City legend Roberto Mancini before Dyche was made the top target for the position.

A deal for Dyche is made easier due to the fact he is out of work and there is no compensation fee required to appoint him. Forest hope to have the 54-year-old in charge for their Europa League home match against Porto on Thursday night, before a trip to face Bournemouth this weekend and home clash with United next week.

Ruben Amorim might have been more fearful had Postecoglou still been in charge for that match, and United boast an impressive record against Dyche. He has taken charge of 18 matches against them during his managerial career, with just one win, five draws and 12 defeats.

The solitary win came at Old Trafford as Burnley manager in January 2020 thanks to goals from Chris Wood and Jay Rodriguez. Dyche has lost his last four matches against United, including a 4-0 defeat to Amorim as Everton boss last December.
