Despite bowing out of his Liverpool role almost 18 months ago, Jurgen Klopp still keeps a keen eye on the Premier League, and apparently, Chelsea.
The former Liverpool boss was recently interviewed about life after Premier League management.
While his former club was the main topic of conversation, he did reference Chelsea when discussing Liverpool’s biggest opponents for this campaign.
He won his last and ‘most special’ silverware at the club against the Blues in the 2024 Carabao Cup final, and he has evidently kept a close eye on them since.

Jurgen Klopp compliments Chelsea’s progress
Chelsea’s ownership transition was all anyone could talk about for a few seasons, and understandably so. Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have undertaken a complete restructuring of the club, its finances and its philosophy.
That has drawn fair criticism, but has also set Chelsea up for sustained success, and Klopp thinks what the new owners have done has worked.
Appearing on the Diary of a CEO Podcast, he says: “Chelsea. Huh. They were in that time when everybody thought, do they have an overview about their transfer market?
“Do they know who they own and who they loan and stuff like this? Obviously, somehow, it pays off.”
From the sounds of it, the German can’t believe it worked out so well.
While Chelsea’s recruitment has been, and still is erratic at times, last season’s silverware justifies the madness. Klopp might look at how Chelsea operate and wish he could have had the same freedom while in charge at Anfield.
The future outlook at Chelsea
As Klopp suggests, the owners’ masterplan has started to come together.
Against Nottingham Forest, Enzo Maresca fielded a team that was the youngest in the Premier League this season.

That’s nothing new for the Blues. Their goal has been to age the team down significantly. Now, the core group of players is stacked with elite young talent, setting Chelsea up to contend for years to come.
Despite this, there have been plenty of calls for Chelsea to start adding experience to the side in order to really take the side to that top level, competing regularly for titles.
Transfer insider Graeme Bailey expects Chelsea to do exactly that next year.
