Rayan Ait-Nouri could make his Manchester City return against Villarreal after being included in the 22-man travelling squad for the Champions League fixture.

The £31millon summer signing hasn't played for City since August 31 after picking up an ankle injury but he returned to full training last week and has come through recent sessions without any problems.

Ait-Nouri didn't make the bench for Saturday's 2-0 win against Everton but the Algerian is included in the travelling squad for the game at the Estadio de la Ceramica and looks set to make the bench at least.

The squad had trained on Monday morning at the City Football Academy and Abdokodir Khusanov and Rodri were the only absentees. They are the only first-team squad members currently injured and both are thought to be nearing a return to action.

Of those who trained, fourth-choice goalkeeper Stefan Ortega hasn't made the cut and midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who isn't registered in the Champions League squad, also misses out.

City are sitting on four points after their first two Champions League games, having beaten Napoli and drawn with Monaco last time out.

Villarreal, who are third in La Liga after a bright start, have one point in European competition, having lost at Tottenham and earned a point against Juventus in their first home game.

Full City squad:

Goalkeepers: Donnarumma, Trafford, Bettinelli

Defenders: Nunes, Lewis, Dias, Stones, Ake, Gvardiol, O'Reilly, Ait-Nouri

Midfielders: Gonzalez, Kovacic, Reijnders, Silva, Foden, Cherki

Forwards: Bobb, Doku, Savinho, Marmoush, Haaland
