Everton star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall admits he's much better in a different position

Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has admitted he’s actually much better playing in a different position to the current one David Moyes has him in.

David Moyes has deployed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as a number 10 this season, with Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish on the flanks.

Dewsbury-Hall has made a good start to his Everton career and is the only summer signing, bar Grealish, to cement himself as a first-team regular.

However, he’s just come out and admitted that he feels he can be even better playing in a totally different role and may get his chance when Idrissa Gana Gueye leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations later in the season.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall says his best position is number eight

Speaking to Everton’s website, Dewsbury-Hall had admitted his best position is actually as a number eight.

“I can play all positions in midfield, but I’d say my strongest point is probably in box-to-box, number eight,” the 27-year-old said.

“But wherever the gaffer wants me, I’ll do my best. That’s all I’ll do for the Club. Yeah, whether that’s playing as most advanced (midfielder) then I will keep trying to work on my game to help do things for the team and whether it’s a bit deeper, then, I’ll do that.

“I just want to learn and keep improving and just trying to get on the ball and helping the team as much as possible.”

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could drop deeper when Idrissa Gueye departs

Idrissa Gana Gueye will leave for the Africa Cup of Nations just before Christmas, with Senegal’s first game against Botswana on the 23rd of December.

That will leave Moyes short in that position and he may feel as though Dewsbury-Hall’s energy is needed in a more defensive role.

He’ll still need to be partnered with a more defensive-minded midfielder, so perhaps it could be Tim Iroegbunam.

Merlin Rohl could also be given a chance, although he’s probably better operating in a more advanced role.
