Scott McTominay has hailed Manchester United star Luke Shaw after his heroics against Liverpool. Harry Maguire nodded home a dramatic late winner against to seal a 2-1 triumph for the Red Devils on Sunday against their rivals.
While the £80million man grabbed the headlines, Shaw also delivered a superb performance on the left flank of Ruben Amorim's three-man defence. The former Southampton ace has been plagued by fitness issues for several years, but he silenced lingering doubters with a commanding showing.
Paul Scholes had suggested that he lacked the athleticism required to excel at United just days before the fixture. But, following the encounter, McTominay lauded Shaw's contribution on social media.
The Scotland international posted on Instagram with a brief three-word message, writing: "What a player" under Shaw's own Instagram upload. Shaw began the contest and was withdrawn in the 85th minute for Leny Yoro, as Liverpool sought to increase their aerial threat in the penalty area.
It proved a memorable afternoon for Shaw and his team-mates, who had to resist wave after wave of Liverpool pressure in the dying stages of the encounter. Sadly for McTominay, it wasn't such a positive weekend for him and his Napoli colleagues, though.
The midfielder sustained an injury prior to the match and he was forced to observe from the touch-line as his side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Torino, marking their second league loss of the season. The setback saw them drop to third in the standings, although sitting just one point behind table-toppers AC Milan.
Amorim was delighted with his own side's performance, securing one of his most impressive victories since taking charge. The triumph also marked United's first consecutive pair of Premier League wins under his leadership.

Speaking after the match, the Portuguese manager said: "Every day is special [as United boss]. But this was a very special win.
"To see our fans singing during the game, in a moment that the biggest rivals are champions - on their field and at their stadium - this win is all about our fans and the spirit of the team. I believe we can play so much better.
"We will analyse the game in the same way we analyse the other ones, try to see the good things and bad things. But, for me, the togetherness they [the players] showed during this game, that'is special for me."
The victory propelled United into the upper half of the standings. Following defeats in three of their first six fixtures, their double-helping of Premier League wins leaves them just two points off the top four spots - while they'll be aiming to make it three for three when Brighton and Hove Albion visit Old Trafford on Saturday, October 25.
