It’s been around one month since Miami Heat star Tyler Herro underwent surgery on his left foot, and he’s set to miss some time to start the new campaign.
A recent rumor indicating that he will be good to go for the team’s season opener has been squashed. Ethan J. Skolnick of Five Reasons Sports reported that he hasn’t heard anything about Herro being healthy enough to play later this week despite Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins’ assertion.
But at the very least, Herro appears to be on the mend. He gave an injury update in the latest video on his official YouTube account — which has amassed 31,800 subscribers — and said that he’s headed in the “right direction.”
“This right here is the red light therapy,” he said. “We do this, it gets blood flow to the area. Give you all a little update — s— is definitely getting better. About three-and-a-half weeks post surgery right now, and we’re headed in the very right direction. A red light in there. This s—- going to bring some blood to the thing — to the foot. Got these fireflies. I got to bring my treatment everywhere I go these days.”
Herro’s personal injury update comes with the Heat just a stone’s throw away from kicking off their 2025-26 regular season. Miami will open its 82-game slate with a bout against another NBA team based in the state of Florida, the Orlando Magic, on Oct. 22.
The Heat are going to be sans their best scorer and playmaker from a season ago against a Magic team that many consider to be one of the more improved squads in the East compared to last season. Orlando traded for former Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane in the offseason and now has a talented trio of stars.
Couple the Magic’s improved roster with Herro’s injury and the fact that Wednesday will be a road game for the Heat, and the odds are seemingly stacked against them to start off the season with a victory.
However, that doesn’t mean the Heat can’t overcome the odds and steal a win away from home. Someone stepping up from a scoring standpoint in Herro’s absence could allow the Heat to do just that, and with guard Norman Powell and big man Bam Adebayo in the fold, they aren’t lacking capable scorers on the roster.
With any luck, the likes of Powell and Adebayo will keep Miami’s offensive attack afloat until Herro makes his season debut.
