Newcastle Insider Addresses Yoane Wissa’s ACL Injury Speculation

[Daily Mail’s Craig Hope](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-15198663/Newcastle-Confidential-Craig-Hope-Wissa-Anderson-Wilson-transfers.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ito=1490&ns_campaign=1490) has poured cold water on online speculation that Yoane Wissa suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

The insider confirmed on Thursday that the Newcastle United forward instead damaged his posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).

“No, Wissa has NOT injured his anterior cruciate ligament, contrary to online rumours,” Hope wrote. “But I can reveal that the area affected is his posterior cruciate ligament. The recovery from PCL injuries varies from a few weeks to nine months, if surgery is needed.”

Wissa joined Newcastle on deadline day for £55 million but has yet to make his debut due to the injury sustained while playing for DR Congo in September.

Hope reported that the 29-year-old “does not require an operation and, as such, remains on track for a November return.”

However, swelling around Wissa’s knee must fully subside before he can resume training.

“We reported earlier this month that the trip to West Ham on November 2 was the soft target for the striker,” Hope added. “I have since been told that the game at Brentford the following weekend — Wissa’s former club, of course — could be more likely for his long-awaited debut.”

According to Hope, Wissa is already running on grass and could have played with injections, but the club has opted for caution.

“That is fraught with risk,” a source told Hope. “He has signed for four years, not a few months.”

Hope noted that Newcastle’s careful approach is aided by the form of record signing Nick Woltemade, who has scored three goals in four Premier League starts.
