Saints, Spencer Rattler get season ending injury news

The New Orleans Saints are still searching for answers following the surprise early retirement of franchise quarterback Derek Carr due to a lingering shoulder injury this past offseason. The Saints have started Spencer Rattler in place of Carr, but things haven’t gotten off to a great start.

Rattler and the Saints are 1-6 to start the season, and he hasn’t looked like the long-term answer at the position for New Orleans. Now, things are going to get even harder for Rattler moving forward, as one of his most important pieces on the offensive line is done for the season.

“Saints C Erik McCoy is believed to have suffered a torn biceps, an injury knocks him out for the season, per me and (Mike Garafolo). One of the NFL’s best, McCoy also played seven games last season because of an injury, as well,” [reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Monday.](https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1980318246277722585)

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“When is the last time Eric McCoy was honestly considered a top 3 center? This isn’t even a good era for centers and I don’t think he is one of the best three. I mean the top guys are Humphrey, Frazier, Linderbaum,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Tough blow for New Orleans. McCoy’s been a rock in the middle when healthy losing him for the season is massive,” someone else added.

“Gonna be great when we win like 2 games but one of those being the Jets so at best it gets us #2 pick,” another fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see where the Saints’ season goes from here.
