“Have a specific opinion” – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reacts to Pep Guardiola’s specific comment

Monday’s edition of [Marca](https://www.marca.com/) have published a detailed interview with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, where he also talks about Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

On September 21st, Manchester City settled for a 1-1 draw against the Gunners, after Gabriel Martinelli scored a late equaliser.

Prior to to the clash, Guardiola talked about Arsenal and Liverpool’s last summer spendings. The north London club invested over £250m and the Premier League winners around £446.5m.

Guardiola said he was fine with other clubs spending big but also insisted Manchester City are treated differently when it comes to investing on new players.

Marca ask Arteta how he reacted to the Manchester City counterpart’ s comment about spending on signings.

_“But there’s a backstory to that, and it comes from the number of questions he’s asked about it. And it’s normal that he had that reaction,”_ he said.

_“I have a specific opinion about why a team might have more or less chances of winning, and I don’t think it’s just because of the spending on signings, but because of other things. I’m not just saying that; the history of football tells you this with many examples.”_

Manchester City hadjust  over 30% of possession against Arsenal in September. This was the lowest in Guardiola’s management career.

When asked how Arsenal deal with low blocks, like they had against the Citizens, Arteta explained: _“Naturally. We always want to subdue the opponent, even though the result is a big factor. That way of reacting to our game will probably last as long as the opponent’s result lasts. But hey, we’re always looking for solutions to win.”_

Arteta also talks about Martín Zubimendi, who left Real Sociedad for Arsenal in July.

The Spain international midfielder has cemented his place at the Emirates. He’s likened to Manchester City star Rodri.

Marca asked Arteta whether the Arsenal signing can ‘stand up’ to the Rodri comparison.

_“I don’t like comparisons. I think ‘Zubi’ has to make his own way, and he’s doing so,”_ he added.

_“Since he’s arrived, his impact on the team has been exceptional, and that’s very difficult. I’ve seen many midfielders arrive in the Premier League after being top players in other leagues, and they’ve struggled; it took them a year or two to become who they are. The speed and ease with which he’s adapting is surprising.”_
