United’s 2-1 result over Liverpool has now resulted in the defending Premier League champions falling to their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions.

Ruben Amorim, on the other hand, has seen the Red Devils build some much-needed momentum after his side’s consecutive Premier League wins this month.

Liverpool were on the back foot against United on the weekend in the first five minutes, with Amad Diallo setting up Bryan Mbeumo for the Red Devils’ opener.

“But it really matters to them,” he told Micah Richards.

“And they’ll be feeling the pressure. And it’s a lot to deal with. So, I’d never thought it was an effort or they’re not trying or anything like that.

“I just think they’re a bit lost at the moment as a club. But one thing I will say is that I think for the first time in a few years, their recruitment has been good.”

Both Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha started against Liverpool in the right-sided and left-sided No 10 roles respectively in Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for United.

Lineker was impressed with how Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have adapted to life at Old Trafford, as well as their respective performances against Liverpool.

“I thought, you know, Mbeumo, he’s jumped in there and been excellent from the very start,” he continued.

“Cunha had his injury, was out, but I think he’s done really well. And I thought he was, both of those two today, I thought played really well.”

What Gary Lineker noticed about Benjamin Sesko amid his praise for Man Utd duo Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha

United manager Amorim made the big call ahead of the Liverpool result to drop striker Benjamin Sesko, with Mason Mount playing in a false nine-esque role.

Benjamin Sesko, who scored in back-to-back matches against Brentford and Sunderland, climbed off the bench in the second half and replaced Mason Mount.

Lineker, much like he did with Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, praised the 22-year-old United summer signing for his second-half cameo against Liverpool at Anfield.

“And even Sesko, you know, when he’s in his bits, when he came on, I thought he held it up well and he’s showed a bit of awareness around him and he’s not just a big target man,” he explained.

“So, I think for the first time in a while, perhaps Manchester United fans can be encouraged by the players that they brought in.”

The Red Devils signed Cunha from Wolves in June before landing Mbeumo from Brentford in July, while Benjamin Sesko arrived from RB Leipzig in August.
