New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson was the talk of the preseason. Before Week 1 even kicked off, there was chatter that the second-round pick could even unseat Rhamondre Stevenson as the Patriots lead back. So much for that. New England won its fourth straight game in Week 7, downing the Tennessee Titans, 31-13. The Patriots’ rushing attack had by far their best game of the season on Sunday, racking up 175 yards on the ground. Stevenson, meanwhile, recorded a season-high 88 rushing yards, one touchdown and dominated the playing time battle with the rookie with 49 snaps. “Just kind of how it played out,” head coach Mike Vrabel said on Monday morning, according to a report by MassLive’s Chris Mason. “I thought Rhamondre was running well. Had some good protections. TreVeyon is going to be a large part of what we do. I just think that the way that the game started and the success that we had, it’s kind of what it was this week.” Fellow running back Antonio Gibson suffered a season-ending torn ACL in New England’s Week 5 upset of the Buffalo Bills, seemingly opening the door for Henderson to take on a bigger role. The Patriots host the Cleveland Browns in Week 8 and it’ll be interesting to see if Henderson’s downward trend in playing time continues.
