The Spanish midfielder joined the Club in February and has shown a steely determination on the pitch, throwing himself into tackles and driving the team forward.

He’s also been a keen learner off the pitch, with Pep Guardiola regularly praising his capacity for taking on new information.

With Rodri likely to be absent for this week’s clashes with Villarreal and Aston Villa, Nico now has a chance to establish himself in the holding role.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the first of those matches, Nico reflected on his time at City so far.

“It has been amazing to be honest. It’s a dream to be at Manchester City,” he said.

“If you told me one year ago, I wouldn’t believe all the experiences and how I have grown, I wouldn’t believe it.

“I am very happy. I want to keep improving and keep playing for City for a long time.”
