Insane Jets stat shows just how awful team's quarterback play has been since Joe Namath

Whenever you think the New York Jets can't get any lower, they always seem to find a way to plummet even further.

Justin Fields has struggled, to say the least, as New York's starting quarterback. But that's nothing new to Jets fans.

Whther its Fields, Zach Wilson or Mark Sanchez, these names are just another failure in the long-list of poor quarterback play to grace the franchise.

Joe Namath still leads the Jets in this passing category

The Jets haven't had a franchise signal-caller since the days of Joe Namath, New York's first and only ever quarterback to be drafted and have prolonged success with the team.

Namath played in New York from 1965-1976, and still leads the franchise in era-adjusted net yards per pass attempt, according to Michael Nania.

"Joe Namath is still by far the best QB in team history in this metric," wrote Nania in a post on X.

"Justin Fields is 36th/42, Tyrod is 35th. Both are right behind... Bryce Petty. Zach Wilson is 8 spots above them."

With Fields and Taylor ranking in the bottom-seven of all-time Jets quarterbacks, it's hard to blame fans for already looking ahead to the 2026 NFL Draft.

One of the more shocking takeaways is Wilson ranking so far ahead of Fields/Taylor, considering he's widely thought of as one of the top draft busts of all time.

Another funny, slightly demoralizing, fact from this stat is former backup Mike White, who started eight games for the Jets from 2021-22 placing fifth all-time for New York in net yards per pass attempt.

The Jets have seen dark days over their near 65 year history, but over the last 15 years, it's hard to find a worse time to be a fan than right now.
