The Minnesota Vikings fell to the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. However, the Vikings had a chance to get the ball back to their offense and veteran quarterback Carson Wentz late in the game, but star Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown beat cornerback Isaiah Rodgers on a deep ball that sealed the win for Philly.
After the game, Rodgers revealed that he received numerous racist remarks from fans who were disappointed in his performance. Now, the Vikings are officially responding.
“We support Isaiah and all players who, unfortunately, experience this type of ignorant and prejudicial behavior far too often, and we ask our fans to continue to fight to eliminate racism,” the team said in an official statement.
Fans reacted to the statement on social media.
“The Packers fans who sent those messages need to be found and exposed for the cowards they truly are,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“BIG BIG TIME RESPECT Minnesota vikings for standing up for your players and a good person. Wish Rogers and the Vikings GL rest of season see y’all in the playoffs. FLY EAGLES FLY,” one Eagles fan added.
“Definitely gross. Doesn’t represent this fanbase at all. It’ll always be SKOL vikes. But no room for this type of racist stuff in this league,” someone else added.
Hopefully, the league sends a message to show that there is no place for this kind of disgusting behavior anywhere near the sport.
