Broncos linebacker suspended following post-game actions in win over the Giants

The Denver Broncos took a serious hit to their defensive unit, as linebacker Dre Greenlaw will be suspended without pay for the Broncos’ Week 8 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys thanks to unsportsmanlike conduct, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The penalty occurred in the immediate aftermath of Will Lutz’s game-winning field goal to propel the Broncos to a stunning 33-32 comeback victory over the New York Giants. With the entire team celebrating on the field, Greenlaw could be seen breaking away from the pack, and running towards referee Brad Allen, screaming profanities at him along the way.

“After the conclusion of the Giants-Broncos game, Greenlaw chased after referee Brad Allen and verbally threatened him as he tried to leave the field,” the NFL said, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Greenlaw to miss his seventh game of the season next week

It was Greenlaw’s first game of the season after missing the first six games due to a quad injury. He accumulated six total tackles in the win over the Giants. After just one game back on the gridiron, Greenlaw will once again watch from the field.

Despite not having Greenlaw, the Broncos will look to carry their momentum into next week’s matchup with Dallas. At 5-2, and atop the AFC West, the Broncos have all the makings of a serious Super Bowl contender, and are looking to keep it that way heading into Week 8.
