Titans interim head coach stressing ball security with rookie QB Cam Ward

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Titans quarterback Cam Ward leads the NFL with five fumbles this season. Two of those have come in the team’s last two games and both of them were results of the ball simply slipping out of his hand.

“He understands the importance of ball security in the pocket and moving like he did,” said Titans interim coach Mike McCoy on Monday.

“It’s happened a couple times now. So, it’s something you’re always going to stress, the importance of the ball and protecting it in the pocket, certain things like that. There’s drills that you do all the time, and you always talk to him about doing it. So, we’ll continue to do that, and that’s something he has to clean up because we can’t hurt the football team that way.”

Ward’s most recent fumble was returned for a touchdown by the Patriots K’Lavon Chaisson, which helped New England beat Tennessee 31-13.

The Titans fell to 1-6 on the season and have lost seven-straight home games. That’s the longest current streak in the NFL.

The Titans travel to Indianapolis for a week 8 matchup with the Colts.
