New Orleans Pelicans prepare for season opener against Memphis Grizzlies

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - The NBA season is upon us, and the excitement for the 2025 season is building.

And a big part of that excitement is that Pelicans star Zion Williamson looks to be in the best shape of his NBA career.

“As far as I know right now, he’s good to go. There’s no restrictions on him,” Pelicans Head Coach Wille Green said. “And as long as he’s feeling great and doing everything we’re supposed to do, we’ll continue to monitor him as we go.”

Along with Williamson’s newfound health, this may be the best roster New Orleans has had in years, as the Pelicans are able to add plenty of new players without losing any key pieces.

“The players that we’ve brought in and the players we’ve drafted all fit the great space. You know the direction we’re going; they’re building a good program around here,” Pelicans Guard Jose Alvarado said.

One of the biggest additions for the Pelicans this offseason was Jordan Poole who has taken it upon himself to share what he’s learned with his new teammates.

“Anything I can do that just help my team get on the same page, learn faster, and kind of get it going,” Poole said. ”We just have a really good group of guys who wanna get better, who wants to learn, who wanna listen, who wants to play at a high-level, so it makes it pretty easy to kind of just say what you gotta say. But the guys listen and coaches kind of give me a voice just to kind of put us in a situation to be successful.”

Despite so many new players joining the Pelicans this season, the team’s chemistry is coming together nicely.

“I think we’re in a great spot. I think everybody likes to be out there with each other as long as we play hard together. I think we’ll be good,” Pelicans Forward Herb Jones said.

It seems like things are turning around for the Pelicans after a rough 2024-2025 season. but for now, the squad is focused on starting this season off strong,

The Memphis Grizzlies will put the Pelicans to the test Wednesday, October 22.

“We expect the team to be very sound execute on both ends. It’s gonna be a real good challenge for this group,” Head Coach Green said.

“We just gotta come ready, locked in and focused and get the season off to a good start,” Poole said.
