Daniel Farke needs to make a 'statement' with Leeds changes according to Bryn Law

LUTV commentator Bryn Law believes that Daniel Farke will want to make a “statement” with his changes to his Leeds United team to face West Ham in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke is under pressure to coax a response out of his Leeds United side after they fell to a second consecutive Premier League defeat.

Several Leeds players came under fire after the game as Brenden Aaronson was guilty of missing the visitors’ best chance of the afternoon. Pascal Struijk was also criticised for his role in Burnley’s opener, as Lesley Ugochukwu ghosted away from him to head home unmarked in the box.

Jamie Carragher defended Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow for his performance against Burnley, but he could lose his place with Lucas Perri pressing for a recall.

Now, ahead of a must-win game against West Ham, LUTV commentator Bryn Law has explained why he believes Farke will want to make a statement with his team selection.

Bryn Law backs Daniel Farke to make Leeds United statement

Appearing on the Square Ball podcast, Law explained why he believes that Farke will be tempted to shake up his starting line-up.

Law believes that Farke will be keen to return to the defensive solidity that served them so well at the start of the season, and will be concerned by the manner in which Leeds conceded in the costly defeat against Burnley.

The LUTV commentator said: “Clean sheets remain crucial, by the way, as well. And if you’re setting up a team to be defensively strong, you have to do that.

“So that’s where the disappointment for the goal conceded, the first goal against Burnley, if you’re packing the box with big lads, that’s not a goal you should be conceding.

“That’s got to have a tangible impact. You’ve got to be very hard to score against if the defensive priority is what’s come to the fore. And then you take your moment after that.”

Asked whether he believes Farke will change his starting line-up, he continued: “That’s what managers kind of do. They weigh it up and they think I’ve got to make some sort of statement here as well. I didn’t like it. It wasn’t good. It shouldn’t have happened. None of those things should have happened.

“So I am the guy who will now address that in the best way. And I think that’s where you could see the changes – up top and at the back on Friday.”

Daniel Farke is reluctant to change his Premier League team

Heading into the game against Burnley, Farke had named the same starting Leeds line-up for four consecutive games before an injury to Noah Okafor forced his hand.

The Leeds manager has only made one set of swingeing changes to his Leeds side, which came after the heavy defeat against Arsenal.

Ao Tanaka, Joel Piroe and Willy Gnonto all started at the Emirates Stadium, but have found first team opportunities difficult to come by, although Gnonto’s impact has also been limited through injury.

With Lucas Perri and Dan James expected to be fit, and Bijol pushing for a call-up, Farke could be set to make multiple changes to his Leeds side for the second time this season.
