Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe will be looking for a response against Benfica
Newcastle will be looking to bounce back from defeat against Brighton as they face Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Magpies are reeling after suffering their third loss of the season on Saturday against the Seagulls, losing 2-1 on the South Coast. kickstarted their Champions League campaign earlier this month with a 4-0 win away at Union Saint-Gilloise, before losing 2-1 at home to Barcelona in the competition.
Jose Mourinho took charge of Benfica in September and currently has the Eagles third in the Primeira Liga. The ex-Chelsea manager's side head into the tie at off the back of a 2-0 win over second division side Chaves in the Portuguese cup.
Benfica have lost both of their Champions League games so far however, including a 1-0 defeat to Mourinho's former side Chelsea last month.
The Brighton defeat was notable for in hauling off Anthony Elanga and Joelinton at half time.
After the game, Howe for the brutal call. "We faded and the last half hour was hard to watch. I don’t think we played well for half an hour of that first half," he said.
He continued: "We made a bright start to the first half and looked in a good place initially, then we fell away from that. I wasn't happy with the first half, and I think it was a time to try and shake the team up, to try and get new energy onto the pitch."

Newcastle are set to be without Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall and Yoane Wissa, who has suffered a setback in his return from injury as he waits to make his debut for the club.
The likes of Joelinton and Elanga could also find their place in the team at risk after being hooked against the Seagulls on Saturday.
Benfica could be without winger, Bruma. The Portuguese giants are also set to head into the game without Alexander Bah, Manu Silva and Gianluca Prestianni.
