Former Alabama ball-carrier scores on the longest run of his NFL career

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs recorded the longest run from scrimmage in his NFL career on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The former Alabama ball-carrier burst through the line and raced away from the Tampa Bay defensive backs on a 78-yard touchdown run as the Lions took a 14-0 lead with 5:51 left in the first half at Ford Field in Detroit.

Monday night’s touchdown replaced a 70-yard touchdown run as the longest rushing attempt in Gibbs’ NFL career. Gibbs had the 70-yard TD on Oct. 27, 2024, in the Lions’ 52-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

Baltimore Ravens fullback Le’Ron McClain had an 82-yard touchdown run in a 33-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 20, 2008.

Gibbs led the NFL with 20 touchdowns last season. By scoring his 37th career touchdown in his 39th regular-season game, he became the 11th player in NFL history to have that many TDs so quickly in his career.
