The Green Bay Packers have certainly navigated some adversity through seven weeks of the 2025-26 NFL season, but as the halfway point of the campaign approaches, Matt LaFleur’s team is currently sitting atop the NFC as the #1 seed with a 4-1-1 record.

Green Bay Packers Occupy the Top Position in the NFC
The Green Bay Packers have not exactly looked invincible throughout their first six games of the season – in fact, both Jordan Love and the offense as well as Micah Parsons and the defense have caught a good amount flak this season. And yet, as Packers fans watched their division rival Detroit Lions topple the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night, Green Bay is now one of only two squads in the NFL to have just one loss, the other being the Indianapolis Colts.

With a 4-1-1 record, Green Bay is in lone possession of first place in the NFC. While a slough of teams sit at 5-2 behind them, Matt LaFleur and company have so far done enough to distinguish themselves from the rest of the field.

Next Gen Stats gives the Packers an 82% chance to make the postseason. Despite currently being the #1 seed, there are four other teams that Next Gen has with more favorable odds to make the postseason:

Green Bay Packers – 82%

Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch (32) tackles Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (8) during the second half at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis., on Sunday, September 7, 2025.There are several teams that you could argue are the best in the NFC. Tampa Bay has looked very strong even despite big injuries to several key players on offense. The NFC West currently has three teams at 5-2, namely San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle. The rival Detroit Lions are also 5-2, while the fellow division rival Chicago Bears are riding a four-game win streak.
There’s certainly a good case for Green Bay as well. They are one of only 4 NFL teams with a top 10 scoring offense and defense.

The conference is full of strong teams that have aspirations of making a deep playoff run. As of now, Green Bay has only played one team currently in a playoff position – the Week 1 contest against Detroit was hardly that, as the Packers ran all over their divisional foes. However, that is soon to change.
Looking Ahead
Ahead on the schedule, the Packers will face the 4-2 Steelers, who are currently atop their division. After that, the Carolina Panthers, who have won 4 of their past 5, represent a tough opponent. Then, a massive Sunday Night Football showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Packers will have plenty of chances to prove they deserve the #1 seed. But for now, despite it not being perfect, Packers fans should be happy with where the team currently is.
