Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has highlighted an area that Nick Woltemade is coping with much better than the man he replaced in Alexander Isak.
Woltemade has breezed into Newcastle and mixed in with locals with no fear of being spotted around the city, even swanning around Tesco to stop for the odd selfie before getting on with his day. The 6ft 6in German does not look concerned about image either after turning up at training with his kit in a Sainsbury's carrier bag last week!
On a weekend in which both Newcastle and Liverpool both suffered 2-1 defeats, Woltemade took his tally to the season in all competitions to seven, after strikes in the German Cup with his old club Stuttgart, for his national team and for Newcastle (5), while Isak struggled again in the No 9 shirt at Liverpool.
Despite defeat for United on the South Coast at Brighton & Hove Albion, Howe was at least able to take some solace from Woltemade's bright second-half performance and another goal.
Howe said: "There is a level of expectation there because we're signing a very good player. There's a lot to take on with a new league and a new lifestyle but he's taken that on very well.
"His attitude has been first class with us and his team-mates, and long may that continue."
Newcastle must now put the Brighton defeat behind them as they prepare for the next episode of their Champions League campaign with Benfica arriving on Tyneside today.
Woltemade himself was philosophical in defeat at the Amex Stadium but welcomed another game quickly and stated he was delighted with his flying start to life at St James' Park.
"It's not good. In the first half, we didn't do good," he added.
"The second half was good energy in the game. We scored one goal and it felt like we would win but they played good and scored. That's football sometimes. The second half was way better than the first.
“I really like to play here. I get balls; the players are looking for me. The gaffer trusts me."
