Aston Villa endured a difficult start to this season, failing to win their first six matches. This includes a 1-0 defeat to Brentford in the EFL Cup.
The Villans had to wait until the end of September to secure their first win of the season, and it came against Bologna in the Europa League.
Since then, results have improved and Aston Villa have won their last five matches. They will be looking to extend that record when Unai Emery’s side face Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League on Thursday.
The Dutch club will be without Victor Edvardsen for the clash against Aston Villa at De Adelaarshorst. Go Ahead Eagles have confirmed on their official website that the striker ‘needs surgery’.
Edvardsen is expected to be out for a prolonged spell. There’s no mention of the nature of the injury. He last made an appearance for the Eredivisie side in their Europa League loss to FCSB in September.
According to De Stentor, the 29-year-old was expected to return last week, ‘but suffered a setback’. It’s claimed Edvardsen will undergo knee surgery on Wednesday and that’ll keep him on the sidelines for few weeks.
It’s unclear when Edvardsen will return but he’ll miss Thursday’s clash against Aston Villa.
