Club ‘awaiting possible arrival’ of West Ham player – VP publicly hails Hammers man

Guido Rodríguez joined West Ham United on a free transfer in August 2024 and hasn’t had regular minutes since Julen Lopetegui’s exit in January.

The Argentina international has played three matches this season. On Monday, he made his first appearance in close to two months in the defeat to Brentford.

Rodríguez was linked to his former clubs, River Plate, Real Betis and Club América, in the summer.

A move never took shape, but the Argentine side are still in the mix. This has been reported recently in Argentina, and Soy del Milo provide the latest.

The midfielder is a product of River Plate’s academy and was with their first team between 2014 and 2016. There’s excitement at the club about the possibility of his return.

River Plate midfielder Enzo Pérez’s contract expires in December. Their manager, Marcelo Gallardo, believes the West Ham player can replace him. Rodríguez knowing the club and their philosophy would be a bonus.

West Ham player is “our greatest pride”

Soy del Milo report River Plate are ‘awaiting the possible arrival’ of the 31-year-old. They are said to want a loan move in the winter market. There’s no mention of whether West Ham or Rodríguez are willing to do business in January.

AS had a chat River Plate vice-president Matías Patanian. The newspaper stated the club ‘is a goldmine for Argentina. From the World Cup to the present, it’s the team that has produced the most players.’

When responding to this, Patanian used Rodríguez as an example and praised him.

“From the World Cup, we also have to add Guido Rodriguez, who was trained by us. River’s youth system is our greatest pride. It’s where we put the most effort,” he said.

“Obviously, afterward, we have to go out and buy players to strengthen the team. It’s our pride, and we cherish it like gold because, ultimately, a player trained at our club is always a plus.”
