Carlos Miguel’s first match since leaving Nottingham Forest couldn’t have gone much worse, as explained by [**IG**](https://esporte.ig.com.br/apostas/2025-10-20/carlos-miguel-estreia-palmeiras-criticas.html).
He was finally handed his Palmeiras debut to cover for the injured starting goalkeeper, Weverton. But the 2.04m goalkeeper was beaten three times from three shots in a nightmare first half against Flamengo.
The first came just ten minutes in, with Flamengo’s first attempt on goal. Midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta went one-on-one and rolled the ball past him with ease.
It didn’t get better from there. Ex-Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho stepped up to take a penalty and sent him the wrong way. Striker Pedro repeated Arrascaeta’s trick a few moments later: another low finish, another late dive, another goal. Three shots, three goals, all before the break.
Carlos Miguel managed a calmer second half. Though he did miss a punch after a cross that luckily ended up with a teammate. By then, the damage was done… and so was the online reaction to the arrival from Nottingham Forest.
Palmeiras fans flooded social media criticising the club’s most expensive goalkeeper signing ever, while the rival supporters, naturally, had their fun.
As Weverton is out indefinitely due to a hand fracture, it’s up to manager Abel Ferreira to decide whether the “giant” deserves another chance, or if someone else takes the gloves next time out.
Either way, his debut definitely raised eyebrows among Palmeiras fans and the local media. They might be more cautious before calling for him next time.
