Chelsea ponder shock move for England striker

Chelsea will aim to move a step closer to qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League when they host Ajax on Wednesday.

The Blues have so far won one and lost one of their two matches in the group phase, but on Wednesday they will welcome an Ajax side to Stamford Bridge that have so far failed to pick up a single point in the competition.

Enzo Maresca’s side have returned to form in the Premier League of late, following up an impressive 2-1 win against champions Liverpool with a comfortable 3-0 victory against struggling Nottingham Forest last time out.

Off the pitch, it has now emerged that the West London outfit could be in the race to sign an England striker.

As per CaughtOffside, Chelsea are on the hunt for a new striker, with Ivan Toney a possible target.

The report claims that both the Blues and London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to bolster their respective squads in attack, and Al Ahli star Toney could be an ideal candidate.

The 29-year-old joined Al Ahli from Brentford in the summer of 2024, having scored 72 goals in 141 games for the West London side.

Since moving to the Middle East, the England international has netted 39 goals in 56 games, including nine goals in 12 games so far this season.

It is claimed that, while both Chelsea and Spurs appreciate Toney, the Blues are wary of entering into negotiations for a player that is settled at his current club.

Toney is said to be happy in Saudi Arabia and isn’t actively pushing for a move away from Al Ahli ahead of the transfer window reopening in January.

The seven-time England international is under contract with his current club until the end of the 2027/28 season, and it therefore appears unlikely that he will return to the Premier League any time soon.
