Mark Clattenburg already has a theory about who will replace Sean Dyche at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have announced the arrival of Sean Dyche as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou.

Evangelos Marinakis seems to have recognised the Reds operate more effectively with a coach who does not deploy an expansive style of football, given the similarities between Nuno Espirito Santo and the new arrival.

However, Mark Clattenburg – who spent time working at Nottingham Forest in the 2023/24 campaign – cannot envisage Sean Dyche remaining at the City Ground beyond this season.

Mark Clattenburg shares Marco Silva theory

Speaking on the Beyond The Back Four podcast, the 50-year-old said: “I always felt Nottingham Forest want Marco Silva and he seems to be the popular choice.

“I think Sean Dyche is being used as a stepping stone for Silva at the end of the season. Because we all know Silva hasn’t signed a new contract with Fulham. There’s a huge release clause, clearly Forest didn’t want to pay that release clause, so maybe they’re going to wait and view Dyche as the person that can lead them forward for the next six, seven months.”

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent for TBR Football – recently confirmed that Marinakis is a huge admirer of Silva having previously hired the Portuguese coach for Olympiacos.

The man born in Lisbon oversaw a tremendous job in Greece, guiding Olympiacos to the Greek Super League title in 2015/16 while winning all of the first 17 games in that successful title charge.

As Clattenburg states, Silva also currently becomes a free agent in July when his deal at Craven Cottage expires, so the fact Dyche has only signed a contract until July 2027 is interesting – it means Marinakis would not have to shell out much compensation if he did decide to make another change at the end of the season.

Fulham have already hinted that they want to keep Marco Silva for the long-term

The 48-year-old is yet to sign fresh terms in west London, but the Cottagers do envisage a future involving him.

Fulham chairman Shahid Khan recently praised Silva and admitted those at Craven Cottage believe he will be part of the long-term plan.

The 75-year-old said: “He’s been great. I really like him not only as a person (but) as a football manager, head coach. I definitely think he’s in our long-term plans.”

Fulham will be desperate for Dyche to impress at Nottingham Forest, as it could well help them to keep Silva in place at Craven Cottage.
