Cowboys follow Commanders thumping with massive DeMarvion Overshown update

The Dallas Cowboys didn't save their season in Sunday's win over the Commanders, but a loss would've really hurt their hopes of making the playoffs.

It was Dallas' most complete performance of the season, as the offense put up 37 points of offense with relative ease while the defense finally resembled an NFL defense thanks to Matt Eberflus making some long overdue changes. While a sign for optimism, it should not stop Jerry Jones from making a trade or two to improve the defensive personnel.

Speaking of trades, getting star linebacker DeMarvion Overshown back will feel like a trade acquisition whenever he's activated. Well, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported on Monday that the Cowboys are opening Overshown's 21-day practice window on Wednesday.

Cowboys are opening DeMarvion Overshown's practice window this week

Just talked to a couple of people, and this is indeed the bat signal for Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown having his 21-day practice window opened on Wednesday.

This puts him on pace to return for the Cowboys’ Nov. 17 Monday night game against the Raiders. https://t.co/5mE2I9gV3e

Overshown actually broke the news himself, posting "T-21" on his X account. This puts Overshown on track to return to the lineup for Dallas' Monday night game against the Raiders on Nov. 17. That is the first game following the team's Week 10 bye.

The 25-year-old linebacker has been ahead of schedule throughout his rehab as he recovers from a devastating knee injury from last season in which he tore multiple ligaments, including his ACL. He said previously that he wanted to be playing by Thanksgiving. That he is tracking to beat that milestone is a testament to how he's attacked his rehab both physically and mentally.

While this is fantastic news, Cowboys fans shouldn't expect Overshown to rediscover his All-Pro form upon returning to the field. He's going to need a ramp-up period, and the coaching staff is almost certainly going to manage his reps once he's cleared to play.

That said, Overshown's return will make a massive difference. He's the team's best playmaker on the defensive side of the ball and they sorely need his speed and football IQ in the middle of the field.

The former Texas Longhorn was tracking to make his first Pro Bowl, and potentially an All-Pro team, before the injury. In 13 games, he tallied 90 tackles, five sacks, four passes defended, a pick-six, eight tackles for loss, 20 pressures and 54 defensive stops.

Cowboys fans can now start the countdown to Agent 0's season debut. You could not have asked for better news following Sunday's dominant win.
