NFL: Takeaways From Week 7 In The NFC North

The NFC North is through seven weeks of the season and continues to be the only NFL division with each team at .500 or better. Week 7 saw each NFC North team play well, but not every team escaped the week with a victory. Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, and Minnesota have areas for improvement, and the division is up for grabs. The remaining question is which team will be crowned division champions at the end of the season. Here is a look at takeaways and things we learned during week seven in the NFC North.

Chicago Bears

D’Andre Swift Has Second Consecutive 100-Yard Game

Swift torched New Orleans’ defense, rushing for 124 yards and one touchdown. He averaged 6.5 yards per carry on 19 attempts, finishing with his second consecutive game with 100+ rushing yards. Chicago struggled to establish the run during its first four games, but changes to the offensive line have made the running game more effective in back-to-back weeks. In his last two games, Swift has 232 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, 81 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown.

Chicago’s Defense Forces Four Turnovers

The Bears defense forced four turnovers during their 26-14 win against New Orleans. The defense pressured opposing quarterback Spencer Rattler throughout the game, sacking him four times, intercepting him three times, and recovering a forced fumble. Sunday’s performance increased Chicago’s standing as the NFL’s top-ranked team in turnover ratio.

Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota’s Ground Game Struggles Against Philadelphia

The Vikings have used their rushing attack to kickstart the offense. However, the Minnesota ground game was ineffective against Philadelphia. The Vikings ended the game with 89 yards (3.9 average) on 23 carries. Running back Jordan Mason found the end zone once, and this was the highlight of Minnesota’s performance on the ground.

Jordan Addison Leads Minnesota Receivers

Philadelphia put an emphasis on stopping Justin Jefferson. Jefferson finished the game with five receptions for 79 yards. In stopping Minnesota’s top target, wide receiver Jordan Addison found open spaces throughout the game. Addison finished the game with nine receptions for 128 yards. Addison has 100+ receiving yards in two of his three games.

Green Bay’s Defense Accumulates Six Sacks

The Packers’ defense made life hectic for the Cardinals on Sunday. En route to a 27-23 victory, Green Bay had 12 QB Hits and six sacks. Micah Parson led the way with five tackles and three sacks. The Packers’ defense continues to progress each week and is the driving force behind the team’s success.

Josh Jacobs Finds the End Zone Twice

Jacobs had a modest workload, finishing the game with 13 carries for 55 yards. However, he capped off two scoring drives with a touchdown. The Packers trailed at halftime, but their running back played a major role in the team’s come from behind win. On the season, Jacobs has 414 rushing yards and is 2nd in the NFL with eight rushing touchdowns.

Detroit Lions

Jahmyr Gibbs Dominates Monday Night Football

Jahmyr Gibbs had his best game of the season. The Detroit running back totaled 136 rushing yards, 82 receiving yards, and two rushing touchdowns. He averaged 8.0 yards per carry and 27.3 yards per reception. He is the spark of Detroit’s offense and was off to the races from the first drive of the game.

Detroit’s Defense Forces Two Turnovers

The Lions defense played exceptionally well, allowing only nine points. Their strong effort limited the Buccaneers to 228 passing yards and 41 rushing yards. Overall, the defense recorded eight QB hits, four sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble recovery. Detroit’s defense has been among the NFL’s best over the first seven weeks.
