Newcastle United star Nick Woltemade has been labelled as ‘a unicorn’ and ‘one of the most special players’ in Europe at this moment in time.
[That praise comes from Cadena SER today](https://cadenaser.com/nacional/2025/10/20/un-unicornio-en-newcastle-es-un-tipo-de-dos-metros-al-que-lo-que-menos-le-pides-son-goles-cadena-ser/?outputType=amp), who put the ‘spotlight’ on the Newcastle United striker. They’re very impressed by him.
They praise the striker, who they say looks more like a basketball player than a footballer. He’s the latter, though, and ‘he does it very well’.
Assumptions are easy to make about the striker, who, given his size, looks like a ‘box finisher’ or a ‘tank striker’. Instead, ‘nothing could be further from the truth’.
Cadena say that while Woltemade is a giant, he has the ‘feet of a dancer’. So much so that he’s a closer to being a false nine than a centre forward. And that makes him one of the most special players on the international scene today.
Now 23-years-old, they say the Newcastle man has ‘kicked the door down without knocking’. Last season place him among the elite of European football, with 17 goals for Stuttgart. He’s continued that at Newcastle. Indeed, they say he is the main reason for hope for the Magpies, who were ‘depressed’ after Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool.
“Adapted really well to Newcastle”
----------------------------------
With six goals already, he’s doing superbly to live up to his big price tag. The latest of those was a superb flick in the defeat to Brighton last weekend.
That didn’t go unnoticed, particularly in Spain, where they appear to be very impressed. That’s certainly the case for journalists José David López and Aritz Gabilondo.
_“He’s a two-meter-tall guy, and in the end, the last thing we ask of him is goals,”_ said the former.
_“What we like most are his touches of pure talent, his pure magic, his inventiveness, and his unpredictability. A striker of that size had always been used for second-round plays and as a specialist in the box._
_“Almost the last thing we ask of him is a goal. He’s performing at a higher level in what we’ve liked least about him. We don’t label him a goal scorer, but rather we ask for much more.”_
_“He’s the only positive news for Newcastle at the start of the season, and he’s responding very well to the pressure that comes with paying a lot of money,”_ added Gabilondo.
_“His signing is a response to Isak’s departure to Liverpool, with all the nuances that entails, but he’s such a good player that he’s adapted really well to the Premier League and Newcastle. Those goalscoring figures are something that should be demanded given the price he paid, but they’re not his greatest strength. He has much more than just his accuracy in front of goal.”_
