Defense: The Standouts
Among the standouts on the defense that kept the Panthers caged for most of the day:
MLB Jamien Sherwood had perhaps his best game as a pro, recording 10 tackles, 1 sack, 2 QB hits, another tackle for loss and a pass defense. Quite a full stat line, and a relative rarity for recent Jets linebackers. Since 1997 a Jets LB has recorded at least 10 tackles, 1 sack, 1 other TFL and 1 PD in a game only 8 other times. Five of those were by the redoubtable David Harris. One came from Darron Lee and two from Quincy Williams, in '2021 vs. Tennessee and '22 at Miami.
Meanwhile, Quinnen Williams continues on his behind-the-line bender. With his late takedown of RB Chuba Hubbard for a 2-yard loss, Quinnen unofficially has 6.5 tackles for loss, at least a half TFL in every game, and also had a sack in the opener vs. Pittsburgh.
Folk Adds to Jets Résumé
For Nick Folk, this is becoming old hat. For the second straight game, the Jets' ageless kicker supplied all the points. With his 34- and 47-yard field goals, he has extended his flawless record of converting FG attempts from closer than 48 yards to 55 in a row since 2022.
Also since the start of '23, Folk has been unconscious in hitting 64 of his 66 tries from all distances, a success rate of 97.0% that is the best among the NFL's 33 kickers with at least 30 attempts.
Our last note on Folk for this week: By hitting both tries Sunday, he's 14 of 14 on all FG tries this season, moving into 2nd place on the Jets' franchise list for most consecutive FGs from the start of a season. Now in third place ... Nick Folk with 12 in 2014. No. 1 on the list and in Folk's sights this season is ... Nick Folk, who converted his first 23 tries in '13.
